Thirty Seconds To Mars
Monolith Tour 2018
Overview
Thirty Seconds to Mars is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1998. The band consists of brothers Jared Leto (lead vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards) and Shannon Leto (drums, percussion).
Working for Production Resources Group (PRG), Mandrake Studios was in charge of pre-program, programming, and running a live performance for the Monolith North America Tour. The opening act saw the band encapsulated inside of a giant monolith structure built out of six LED walls. After the band emerged from the giant LED walls, we created a variety of lighting effects throughout the show. Lighting for the show ranged from ominous mood lighting to joining lights above the stage to illuminate the whole space.
Mandrake Studios chose the 4x4 pro to allow the grandMA2 lighting console to control several mapping modes and banks via SockPuppet DMX. This was useful because the Lighting Director was able to choose any map, create content on the fly, or create presets in grandMA2 to control the six LED surfaces and two IMAGs. Disguise was also a great solution because we were able to run the show with SockPuppet DMX and timecode using MultiTransport.
